Ed van Thijn

Eduard "Ed" van Thijn (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈeːdyɑrt ˈɛt fɑn ˈtɛin]; 16 August 1934 – 19 December 2021) was a Dutch politician of Jewish descent. He was a member of the Labour Party (PvdA). He also was a historian. After the election of 1981 Van Thijn was appointed as Minister of the Interior, taking office on 11 September 1981. In May 1983 Van Thijn was nominated as the next Mayor of Amsterdam.

In January 1994, Van Thijn became Minister of the Interior again from 18 January 1994 until 27 May 1994, when he resigned following the IRT-affair. He later was a Senator from 8 June 1999 until 12 June 2007.[1]

Van Thijn died on 19 December 2021 in Amsterdam from problems caused by Parkinson's disease, aged 87.[2]
