Object history
Deutsch: Kirchzarten führte seit dem 19. Jahrhundert in den Gemeindesiegeln als „redendes" Bild eine Kirche. Das Wappen hingegen erinnert an die Herrschaftsgeschichte des Ortes. Es wurde am 25. September 1956 vom Innenministerium verliehen, die Flagge am 7. Juni 1957. Seit dem 8. Jahrhundert war Hinterzarten der Mittelpunkt der Besitzungen des Klosters St. Gallen in der Zartener Mark. Die Pfarrkirche St. Gallus wird 816 erstmals genannt. Der Bär als Attribut des Heiligen Gallus ist das Wappenbild des Klosters. Von etwa 1500 bis 1806 hatte die Stadt Freiburg die Grundherrschaft inne. Dies wird durch das - hier als halbes Kreuz dargestellte - Freiburger Stadtwappen verdeutlicht.
