Object history
Deutsch: Im ersten bekannten Stadtsiegel aus dem Jahre 1312 wird der Name der Stadt durch die Abbildung eines auf einem Vierberg stehenden Löwen (lateinisch: leo) bildlich ausgedrückt. Das ursprüngliche Wappen war somit im vollen Sinne „redend". Später entfällt — vielleicht im Interesse einer besseren Unterscheidung vom Calwer und Vaihinger Stadtwappen - der Vierberg, während der Löwe in wechselnder Gestalt das Wappentier der Stadt bleibt. Die schon in Wappenzeichnungen von 1535 und 1605 nachgewiesenen Farben Schwarz und Gold sind die Wappenfarben der württembergischen Stadtgründer und ehemaligen Stadtherren.
