  • High seasonal rainfall, warm temperatures, and agricultural runoff caused this massive algal bloom in Florida's Lake Okeechobee as imaged by a RapidEye satellite. The thick, putrid bloom is spreading into regional waterways, prompting Florida Governor Rick Scott to declare a state of emergency along the coastal areas of Southeast Florida.
