Summary

Description
English: Siraj-ud-Daulah was the last independent Nawab of Mughal Bengal. The end of his reign marked the start of British East India Company rule over Bengal and later almost all of India. Siraj succeeded his maternal grandfather, Alivardi Khan as the Nawab of Bengal in April 1756 at the age of 23, but he was soon betrayed by his commander-in-chief, Mir Jafar, in the Battle of Plassey against the British. After his death, his ducal realm was annexed by the British and Mir Jafar was made the nawab.
