Meitei Christians

A Meitei Christian or Christian Meitei is a person who belongs to Meitei ethnic group and follows the Christianity as his or her faith. There is a minute population of Meitei Christians in Manipur and other Manipuri settlements of the world.

Unlike the other indigenous communities of Manipur, who are all tribesmen communities, it is said that the Meitei people embraced Christianity not with any form of imposition but by willing decisions.But it is not accepted by majority of Indian people. The first person to baptize is believed to be a lady "Ningol Kaboklei", in the year 1893, when she met a Christian missionary in Sylhet, Bangladesh.
