Pump
A pump is a machine which moves a liquid from one place to another, often upwards.
Pumps need some kind of power, often kinetic energy, to make them work. Sometimes the power comes from a person. Sometimes the power comes from a motor.
Types of pumps
There are many different kinds of pumps. Some types of pumps are:

A large, electrically driven pump for waterworks near the Hengsteysee, Germany
The figure shows a common form of lobe pump. A cavity is formed and the material is pushed along the interior of the case to the discharge. As the lobes mesh in the middle of the pump this prevents bypass or backflow of process material.
