Tasman Sea

Location of the Tasman Sea

The Tasman Sea is the sea between Australia and New Zealand. It was named after Dutch explorer Abel Tasman. It is about 2,000 kilometres (1,200 mi) across, and 2,800 kilometres (1,700 mi) from north to south. The sea is part of the south Pacific Ocean. Its Māori name is Te Tai-o-Rēhua, and it is sometimes called The Ditch by Australians and New Zealanders.
