Summary
Description1SWASP J1407 and J1407B to scale.png |
English: A to-scale graph of 1SWASP J14 07 47.93 -39 45 42.6 and b to scale. In this image, 1 pixel is 0.01 AU. The sizes of 1SWASP J1407 and 1SWASP J1407b are about 0.0095 AU and 0.007 AU, so rounded up they occupy a single pixel. The orbit of J1407b is indicated, with an assumed semimajor axis of 4 AU and eccentricity of 0.004; with a face-on view to negate inclination.
The ring system is to scale, with some of the major formations in the rings included: 0.01 AU (1,500,000 km) - the planet itself 0.01-0.18 AU (27,000,000 km) - The central ring system (And assumed accretion disk) of the planet. 0.19 AU (28,000,000 km) - Two small holes in the inner ring system, possibly two small moons. 0.20 AU (30,000,000 km) - A small outer ring of material in the central inner ring system. 0.20-0.40 AU (60,000,000 km) - The central ring group in the system. Although dotted with many small ring holes, it generally increases in density from the edges to 0.31 AU 0.40-0.42 AU (63,000,000 km) - A large hole in the system, possibly for the formation of a small moon. 0.42-0.45 AU (67,000,000 km) - A small fairly high-density area just outside the hole, further indicative of a small moon. 0.45-0.51 AU (76,000,000 km) - A large area of low ring density. 0.52 AU (78,000,000 km) - a medium-sized area of higher ring density, possibly with a small area that could house a small moon. 0.52-0.56 AU (84,000,000 km) - A small return to the density of the outer middle ring at 0.45-0.51 0.56-0.60 AU (90,000,000 km) - A large outer ring of higher density, held in place by possible shepard moons. Saturn for comparison: 0.00045-0.00050 AU - D ring 0.00050-0.00061 AU - C ring 0.00061-0.00079 AU - B ring 0.00079-0.00082 AU - Cassini Division 0.00082-0.00091 AU - A ring 0.00091-0.00093 AU - Roche Division 0.00094 AU - F ring 0.001 AU - Janus/Epimetheus Ring 0.00111-0.00117 AU - G ring 0.00130 AU - Methone ring arc 0.00132 AU - Anthe ring arc 0.00141-0.00143 AU - Pallene ring 0.00120-0.00321 AU - E ring 0.027-0.087 AU - Phoebe ring Just to clarify, the entire Saturnian Ring System could fit within 10 pixels to scale in the shown graph |
