Mit einem überraschenden 2:0 (0:0)-Sieg gegen den WM-Teilnehmer Belgien verabschiedete sich die DDR-Nationalmannschaft im Vanden-Stock-Stadion Anderlecht für immer von der internationalen Szene. Vor rund 10.000 war im 293. und gleichzeitig letzten Länderspiel der Ex-Dresdner und Mannschaftskapitän Matthias Sammer (3.v.l.) der Schütze beider Tore. Abgebildete Personen:
