Object history

Das Tatzenkreuz des Klosters Prüfening und die aufgelegte Schrägleiste aus dem Wappen des Hochstifts Bamberg versinnbildlichen einen zentralen Sachverhalt in der Herrschaftsgeschichte von Gebenbach: Bischof Otto I. von Bamberg übergab 1138 den Ort an das von ihm gegründete Kloster Prüfening bei Regensburg; diese enge Verbindung blieb bis zur Säkularisation 1803 bestehen. Der Wellenbalken oben ist redendes Bild für den zweiten Teil des Ortsnamens. Die Feldfarbe Gold im Schildhaupt ist vom Wappen des Marktes Hahnbach hergeleitet, da Gebenbach lange Zeit zur Vogtei Hahnbach gehörte.
