El Escudo de Armas está cuartelado en Sotuer, es decir, dividido en cuatro campos, leyéndose de la siguiente manera:
Campo Superior: de gules, un sol naciente de oro, cruzado por nube de plata; representa la voz indígena “Chiguayante” (neblina matinal).
Campo diestro y siniestro: de plata, tres ondas de azur, que representan el río Bío Bío.
En punta: campo de sinople que simboliza a la Cordillera de la Costa con su imponente Cerro Manquimávida, representativa de la ciudad.
Sobre el todo: Blasón de armas del Gobernador de Chile Don Alonso de Ribera, creador de la política de fortificación, defensa y registro de las tierras en la región en que se sitúa Chiguayante.
Timbres: Corona mural de oro de garitas mazonadas de sable, que indica el rango comunal.
Ilusión: Una cinta ondeante de oro con la leyenda Chiguayante.
