DescriptionHamburg Jungfernstieg (1890-1900).jpg |
Deutsch: Jungfernstieg in Hamburg.
English: Old view of Hamburg, between 1900 and 1905. Beginning in the lower right, Hamburg's broadway Jungfernstieg leads directly to one of Hamburg's main churches, St. Petri, on the left. The right tower the one of the city hall, even though the clocks are missing. In the bottom left edge of the image you can see the Binnenalster, the smaller one of the two lakes formed by the river Alster in the heart of Hamburg. In the center the famous Alster Pavillon, a café established in 1799 and still open. This is the fourth building, which existed between 1900 and 1914. The building opposite the Alster Pavilion, Jungfernstieg 24, bears the name "Kempinksi". The company moved to Jungfernstieg 6/7 and opened its new location there in May 1905. The photo can therefore not have been taken after 1905. |
