English: Lafayette S. Foster. Library of Congress Prints and Photographs Division. Brady-Handy Photograph Collection; CALL NUMBER: LC-BH82-4938 B. Library of Congress description: "Hon. Lafayette Sabine Foster of Connecticut", Note: Lafayette Sabin Foster was born in Franklin, New London County, November 22, 1806. A lawyer by profession, he spent most of his career in politics. He was elected to the Connecticut General Assembly, 1839–40, 1846–48, 1854, 1870. He was a candidate for Governor of Connecticut in 1850 and 1851, Mayor of Norwich, CT, 1851–52; US Senator from CT, 1855–67; Justice of the Connecticut State Supreme Court, 1870–76; and candidate for the US House of Representatives from Connecticut, 1874. He died in Norwich, CT, Sept. 19, 1880 (This summary was created using Commons SumItUp).
