Description
English: A procession is held in the middle of a medieval cemetery. Religious hold a coffin, surrounded by poor torchbearers on which is inscribed the monogram of Étienne Chevalier "EE" and mourners. The cemetery is surrounded by various medieval buildings. This miniature illustrated the beginning of the Office of the Dead.
Français : Une procession se tient au milieu d'un cimetière médiéval. Des religieux tiennent un cercueil, entourés de pauvres porteurs de torches sur lesquelles est inscrit le monogramme d'Étienne Chevalier « EE » et de pleurants. Le cimetière est entouré de différents bâtiments médiévaux. Cette miniature illustrait le début de l'Office des morts.

Français : Ancien livre d'heures commandé par Étienne Chevalier, trésorier du roi Charles VII. Démembré et les miniatures découpées au début du XVIIIe siècle puis montées sur une planchette de bois par un menuisier encadreur parisien vers 1790. Propriété de Georg Brentano puis acquis auprès de son fils par Henri d'Orléans, duc d'Aumale en 1891. Donné à l'Institut de France.
Exhibition history
Français : Présenté dans le Santuario du musée depuis 1897, interdit de sortie du château de Chantilly en raison des conditions du don du duc d'Aumale.
