Prior to his appointment Mr. Ahtisaari was serving as Under-Secretary of State in the Foreign Ministry of Finland and concurrently as the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Namibia. Mr. Ahtisaari graduated from the University of Oulu, Finland, in 1959. |
