DescriptionThe James Keir Hardie Bust - geograph.org.uk - 982563.jpg
English: The James Keir Hardie Bust. This bust stands outside Cumnock Town Hall. A plaque at the foot of the statue reads as follows:-
This bronze bust of James Keir Hardie (1856-1915)
was sculpted by Benno Schotz RSA.
It was commissioned by the
National Keir Hardie Memorial Committee
and was accepted by
Provost Nan Hardie Hughes,
Keir Hardiess daughter, in August 1939.
This plaque was unveiled by Mrs Anna Boyd,
Vice-Convener of Cumnock
and Doon Valley District Council,
On 4th July 1992,
the Centenary of Keir Hardies
election to Parliament
as Britains first Labour M.P.
The bronze bust has recently been painted brown and a couple of locals told me that the towns people are none too pleased about it.
