The 2016 Javea forest fire was a forest fire which happened in early September 2016 near Benidorm. The fire burnt more than 800 hectares of land and destroyed at least twenty homes in the area. Authorities later stated it was likely to have been started deliberately.

Cause

The fire started on one of the hottest recorded days of the year, but the media reported the possibility of arson[1] and not an accidental fire. Valencia emergency service officials stated concerns that the fire could have been started deliberately.[2][3]

Response

More than 200 firefighters[2] were deployed to put the fire out.[3]
