2022 Oder environmental disaster

Dead fish in the Oder river

The 2022 Oder environmental disaster occurred in August. Many fish, beavers and other wildlife in the Oder river in Poland and Germany died.[1] This caused a health and environmental crisis.

The Oder drains a basin of 119,074 km² (45,975 sq mi) in Czechia, Poland and Germany.

On 11 August 2022, it was discovered that some parts of the Oder river were contaminated and many dead fish were seen on shore.[2][3][4]

The discovery was made by local fishermen.[5]
