Anal gland
Many animals have glands which are located close to the anus. These glands are called anal glands. In many cases, they produce a specific secretion or smell, which the animals use to identify each other. If the animal is territorial, it may also use secretions of these glands to mark the territory. Sometimes, animals signal that they are ready for copulation.
Animals with anal glands include:
- Many primates, including humans
- Most carnivores
