Etymology

AumSum comes from two Sanskrit words; Om, which means universe, and Sum, which means knowledge. The two form "Knowledge of the Universe", or simply stated in English, "fact", which fits with the fact that AumSum posts a large quantity of science-related videos, hence the name stuck.

Channels

It's AumSum Time

Formerly known as "Smart Learning for All", It's AumSum Time is the main channel and the most popular AumSum channel. While AumSum usually is the narrator's sidekick, in some videos, he would instead take the narrator's role and explain things to the audience himself. The channel uploads maths and science videos.

On December 27, 2014, the first video, "Digestive System of Humans", was uploaded, and the channel was renamed to It's AumSum Time on May 16, 2018. The first video depicting a cartoon character resembling AumSum was uploaded in 2017, in a video about the Tyndall effect (Proposed by Irish scientist John Tyndall) which explains why the sky appears blue. In the video "How does a plastic comb attract paper?" which explains static electricity, AumSum began to resemble his current form. He gained a voice, which eventually became cartoonish, and his eyes became a bit bigger. The AumSum website, which was the first place to view the videos, later became a merchandise store.

After Chinmay Shah quit social media in 2023, AI voices began to be used to narrate the videos. New music was first used in the beginning of the video "What if Earth swallowed the sun?". His first video with a cartoonish voice was about what killed the dinosaurs, and his first what-if video was "What if we stopped drinking water?", which was produced before he got his name. The first what-if with a cartoonish voice was about what happens if everyone was vegetarian.

On March 10, 2024, AumSum premiered for the first time as a full-fledged television show in India.

AumSum's Science

AumSum's Science (formerly AumSum – What If) is a channel dedicated to science videos. It was made in 2021 and "What if South Korea disappeared?" was the first video uploaded to the channel. The channel has more than 200 videos, uploads four videos every week, and is the next most popular AumSum channel after It's AumSum Time. Cartoon videos about planets are sometimes uploaded there instead of what-if videos. Eventually, they began to upload longer and more scientific videos. The average video length is now 5 minutes, now telling scientific stories about AumSum and his adventures.

AumSum and Space

The newest channel on the AumSum series is AumSum and Space. There has always been an Indian voice ever since the first video, "What if the Moon broke in half?" and the planets used to tell the jokes, but now AumSum does.

AumSum's Cat/Dog

Videos on the channel AumSum's Cat/Dog involve AumSum's pets playing naughty pranks on him, such as his dog giving him a burger to distract him from a boxing match, and his cat shooting down his hot air balloon while it is in flight.

Scary Videos

On February 15, 2021, a user named FreeFireNewsWire posted a tweet discussing the video "What if Bill Gates Disappeared?", which was described as "ultra creepy" and subsequently subjected to further media coverage. RT made a news article later that day showing that the AumSum channel would suffer a lot.The video was later deleted.
