Barbican station entrance on Aldersgate Street, 1981.*View northward on Aldersgate Street at Long Lane. This station ('Aldersgate' until November 1910, then 'Aldersgate Street', '& Barbican' from 24/10/24,) was one of those on the first extension to Moorgate Street (December 1865) of the pioneering (January 1863) underground Metropolitan Line (Paddington - Farringdon Street).
The Thameslink lines on the south side of the station are no longer in use. The signal box seen here (R) was demolished in January 2015 as part of the Crossrail redevelopment.
Elizabeth line platforms at Farringdon are connected to Barbican's westbound platform.
