Calligraphic carpet

The calligraphic carpets are the hand-knotted or hand-tufted carpets which are based on Islamic written or Quranic verses. Similar to other rugs, they are made on traditional loom but due to religious value they require extra care.[1] Produced worldwide but mainly manufactured in Pakistan. They are typically crafted in high knot density and with organic material including Wool and Silk which makes this carpet expensive.[2]

Significance

Largest calligraphic carpets placed in the Provincial Assembly of Sindh

In 2013, a world record of largest calligraphic carpets made in Pakistan which are based on calligraphies of artist Sadequain. The carpets are currently hanging in the Provincial Assembly of Sindh, Karachi.[3]
