Carmel-by-the-Sea, California
Carmel-by-the-Sea, often called simply Carmel, is a municipality in Monterey County, California, United States. It was founded in 1902 and incorporated on October 31, 1916. Carmel is on the Monterey Peninsula. It is known for its natural scenery and rich artistic history. Actor Clint Eastwood was mayor of Carmel-by-the-Sea for two years.

Mission San Carlos Borromeo de Carmelo, established in 1770, was the headquarters of the Californian mission system from 1797 until 1833.
