Changthang
Changthang means Northern Plateau in Tibetan. It is a high altitude plateau in western and northern Tibet. It goes from Ladakh east about 1600km to the Chinese state called Qinghai. It is a very high land with giant lakes. It is the home of the Changpa nomads.
The part of Changthang in Ladakh (in India) has a population of 10,089 (2000 WCD). It is found in Jammu and Kashmir, around the Chinese border area of Changthang Region east and southeast of Leh. Changthang is known for its music and dance. It also has many important animals such as sheep (cashmere wool) and goats.
