Chimène Keitner
Chimène Keitner is an American-Canadian legal scholar and professor of law. She currently holds the Martin Luther King Jr. Professorship at the University of California, Davis School of Law. She is also the Homer G. Angelo & Ann Berryhill Endowed Chair in International Law. She is known for her work in international law, foreign sovereign immunity, and civil litigation. In 2003, she married Ram Fish.[1][2][3]
Education and career
Keitner holds a DPhil in International Relations from the University of Oxford (2001), a JD from Yale Law School (2002), and a BA in History and Literature from Harvard University (1996). She was a Rhodes Scholar and a Paul & Daisy Soros Fellow for New Americans.[4][5]
Keitner began her legal career as a law clerk to Chief Justice Beverley McLachlin of the Supreme Court of Canada. She has held faculty positions at various U.S. law schools, including UC Hastings College of the Law and visiting appointments at UC Berkeley and the University of Southern California.[6][7][8]
From 2016 to 2017, she served as the 27th Counsellor on International Law at the U.S. Department of State, advising on matters related to international and national security law.
Academic work
She has written extensively on topics including international law, transnational litigation, national security law, and sovereign immunity. U.S. courts, including the Supreme Court, have cited her work. She is the author or co-author of several books and academic articles.
