The close back unrounded vowel is a sound used in some spoken languages. The IPA letter for this sound is ⟨ɯ⟩, also known as a turned m. It is not in English. The close back unrounded vowel can in many cases be considered the vocalic equivalent of the voiced velar approximant /ɰ/.

The near-close near-back unrounded vowel is a sound used in some spoken languages. It has a more centralized sound than a typical [ɯ]. The International Phonetic Alphabet has no official symbol for this sound, but it can be showed as [ɯ̽] (mid-centralized ⟨ɯ⟩) or [ɯ̞̈] (lowered and centralized ⟨ɯ⟩).
