Devorà Ascarelli was a poet from Rome, the capital of Italy. Some say that she may of been the first Jewish woman to have a book of hers ever published.[1]

Biography

Many things about her remain unknown and some of the things about her contradict each other.[2] She was allegedly born in the Italian merchant class and was well educated and had time to write and translate texts.[3] She also never had a birth last name leading some to believe that she was married to her cousin which meant that she did not have to change her last name.[1]
