Edward Ashmore
Admiral of the Fleet Sir Edward Beckwith Ashmore (11 December 1919 – 28 April 2016) was a senior Royal Navy officer.
He was born in Queenstown, Ireland. During the Second World War, he served in active naval operations. He later commanded two frigates before rising to senior positions in the Royal Navy.
Ashmore served as First Sea Lord and Chief of the Naval Staff in the mid-1970s. He subsequently became Chief of the Defence Staff, serving briefly in that role.
After retiring from military service, he became a director of Racal Electronics and a governor of Suttons Hospital in London.
Ashmore died on 28 April 2016 in London at the age of 96.[1]
