Frances Jane Crosby (usually known as Fanny Crosby) (March 24 1820 – February 12 1915) was an American poet / lyricist who was famous for writing Protestant Christian hymns. She was a lifelong Methodist. She wrote over 8,000 hymns in her life, even though she became blind shortly after she was born. She was also known for her preaching and speaking.
Crosby is one of the most famous hymn writers in history. Some of her most well-known and best-loved songs are "Blessed Assurance", "Pass Me Not, O Gentle Saviour", and "To God Be the Glory".
