Fernando Matthei
Fernando Matthei Aubel (July 11, 1925 – November 19, 2017) was a Chilean Air Force General. He was born in Osorno, Chile. He was part of the military junta that ruled Chile from 1973 to 1990, replacing the dismissed Gustavo Leigh as Air Force Commander in Chief on July 24, 1978.
From 1976 through 1978, Matthei served as Minister of Health.
Matthei was part of the Junta from 1977 to 1990, retiring from the Air Force in July 1991.
Matthei died on November 19, 2017 in Santiago, Chile of cardiopulmonary arrest at the age of 92.[1]
