English: Painting of the woodpecker Colaptes mexicanus by Edward Hargitt, 1889. The species is now called the northern flicker (Colaptes auratus). Hargitt prepared the illustration as one of 1386 plates for a 3145 page monograph covering all the woodpeckers. The manuscript is held by the State Darwin Museum in Russia.
