English: Pedestrian island at Black Lives Matter Plaza being removed on March 10, 2025. Background: A Congressional representatives introduced a bill in the house which would withhold funding from the city unless the plaza was renamed Liberty Plaza and the mural was removed. D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser said that the mural would be removed because "we can't afford to be distracted by meaningless congressional interference".
