Summary

Description
English: Two U.S. Navy LTV A-7E Corsair II aircraft of Carrier Air Wing 14 (CVW-14) on the aircraft carrier USS Coral Sea (CV-43) in April 1980. Both aircraft wear black-red-black identification stripes for the (later aborted) attempt to rescue U.S. hostages from Iran, code named "Operation Eagle Claw" (or "Evening Light"). The A-7E in the foreground (BuNo 156872) belonged to attack squadron VA-97 Warhawks and was the personal aircraft of the air group commander (CAG) of CVW-14 (hence the colourful tail markings). The A-7E in the background on the catapult was from VA-27 Royal Maces.
