English: On 18 July 1989, Abel Matutes, Member of the CEC in charge of Mediterranean Policy, Relations with Latin America and Asia (excluding Far East) and North-South Relations, received Ali Bozer, Turkish Deputy Prime Minister. They signed two financing agreements which form part of the special ECU 75 million package of aid to Turkey agreed by the Council in May 1979 and approved in June 1980.2 The agreements, for a total of ECU 4.8 million, which result from commitments approved in December 1988,3 concern a programme to strengthen the association links between the Community and Turkey and the setting-up in Istanbul of a regional training and development centre for local authority middle- and senior-level staff in the Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East.
