Summary

Description

1975 Austin 1800 (ADO71)

Later similarly (though not identically) bodied models were branded as the "Princess". But when originally launched the car was simply branded as the "Austin 1800" (or, if Morris badged, the "Morris 1800"). Larger engined six cylinder versions were branded as the "Austin 2200", "Morris 2200" or "Wolseley Saloon". The first two names were inherited from the "landcrab" BMC ADO17 which these models replaced.
British Leyland's recruitment of marketing talent from (primarily) Ford of Britian had not, in 1975, yet led to the proliferation of changing names that became a feature of an increasingly confused British Leyland in the second half of the 1970s.
