Français : (*) « Ces peignes ou râteaux sans manche figurent sur l'écu des comtes de Rethel mais le plus souvent au nombre de deux. Leurs sceaux de 1198 (Hugues, fils de Manassès, plus tard Hugues II de Rethel) à 1301 (Jearme, comtesse de Rethel, femme de Louis de Nevers) sont généralement ornés de l'écu à deux peignes, seul le contre-sceau du même Hugues, 1198, en porte trois. Le nombre deux se retrouve encore en 1293 sur le sceau de l'échevinage de Rethel, en 1390 et 1437 sur celui du bailliage de Rethelois. Il semble donc certain que les comtes de Rethel portaient de (gueules) à deux peignes (d'or) l'un sur l'autre. Sceaux du comté de Rethel. » |
