English: Britain Before the First World War
The Sydney Street siege. Firemen tackle a fire at 100 Sidney Street, Stepney, London. Armed anarchists Fritz Svaars and William (or Joseph) Sokolow had barricaded themselves in the property, shot at police and soldiers of the 1st Battalion, Scots Guards, and then set fire to the house on 3 January 1911.
