Deutsch: Am 26. Oktober 1950 schlug die Thurgauische Gemeindewappenkommission der damaligen Einheitsgemeinde Altnau vor, ein Gemeindewappen zu schaffen. Der Vorschlag der Kommission stiess in Altnau auf Gegenliebe; ein förmlicher Beschluss liegt jedoch nicht vor. Nachdem die Einheitsgemeinde Altnau vom Grossen Rat per 2003 zur Politischen Gemeinde Altnau erklärt worden war, blieb das Wappen unverändert im Gebrauch. |

Deutsch: Seit dem 12. Jahrhundert ist die Zugehörigkeit Altnaus zum Domstift Konstanz (rotes Kreuz) bezeugt, und seit 1471 war die Vogtei in den Händen der Stadt Konstanz (schwarzes Kreuz). |
