Object history
Deutsch: Das älteste überlieferte Siegel von 1245 zeigt den Löwen nicht auf einem Dreiberg, sondern mit einem Hecht in den Pranken. Die Deutung des Ortsnamens Murten, französisch Morat, ist unsicher. Möglich ist die Ableitung vom lateinischen mūrum, Mauer, und *mūráttu, Mäuerchen, Gemäuer. Vermutet wurde auch eine Verbindung zum keltischen moretto, Festung am See, Kurzform von moriduno.
