Français : Centaure de Lefkandi, 1050 - 900 av.J.-C., Argile. Cette figurine unique a été découverte en deux morceaux, dans deux tombes distantes de trois mètres l'une de l'autre, dans la nécropole du site de Toumba. C'est la première représentation en trois dimensions connue de la célèbre créature mythique dans l'art grec antique. Les Centaures avaient une grande réputation de sagesse, c'est pourquoi ils étaient fréquemment employés comme maîtres par les héros. Ainsi en fut-il de Chiron, qui servit de maître notamment à Héraklès, lequel blessa un jour le centaure par inadvertance au genou. Ce détail, représenté sur cette figure, permet donc de l'identifier à Chiron.
English: Centaur of Lefkandi, 1050 - 900 BCE, Clay. Identified as Chiron, found in two pieces in two different tombs in the site of Toumba. It is the first "3D" sculpture of a centaur ever.
