English: Chair, New Zealand rimu attributed to the Johnny Jones whaling station - settlement, near Waikouaiti, Dunedin, pre 1840. The New Zealand timber chair is a simplified Regency period, Sheraton styled dining chair with arms and flat integral wooden seat. Attributed to the Johnny Jones whaling station, near Waikouaiti, north of Dunedin the item is a very rare early example of domestic New Zealand made seated furniture used by colonists, whalers or traders. It complements the whalebone chair (1998.81.1) attributed to the Johhny Jones Waikoaiti settlement (near Dunedin) whaling station.

Notes Attributed to the Johnny Jones whaling station and settlement, near Waikouaiti, north of Dunedin, the chair is a very rare, early example of domestic New Zealand made seated furniture used by settlers, whalers and traders. Taking advantage of New Zealand rimu, a wood that grows abundantly throughout the entire country, the chair is a simplified Regency period, Sheraton-styled elegant dining chair with arms and flat integral seat.
