Compuesto totalmente de militares, el directorio cívico dio inicio a las presidencias y dictaduras militares. El directorio cívico terminó su gobierno cuando le fue entregado la presidencia de la nación salvadoreña al vicepresidente Maximiliano Hernández Martínez
