English: Rightening of Costa Concordia - stage 1 of 4. A process called parbuckling used pulling cables and metal boxes with water and welded to the ship's sides to roll it upright. The procedure took 19 hours to complete at Giglio island. Once the ship had rotated to 25 degrees, no further pulling was required as it continued to rotate under its own weight.
An underwater platforms built to support the ship. Metal boxes (caissons) are attached to the side.
Cables attached to the platform and land roll the ship upright helped by the caissons
More caissons are fixed to the sides. Water is pumped in
Air inside the caissons lift the ship so it can be towed away
This technology image could be re-created using vector graphics as an SVG file. This has several advantages; see Commons:Media for cleanup for more information. If an SVG form of this image is available, please upload it and afterwards replace this template with {{vector version available|new image name}}.
It is recommended to name the SVG file “Costa-salvage1.svg”—then the template Vector version available (or Vva) does not need the new image name parameter.
