Deutsch: Die Gemeinde führte nachweislich seit 1520 ein Siegel mit einem Auge in einem Wappenschild - wohl ein „redendes" Motiv, das von der lateinischen Form „Augia" des Ortsnamens abgeleitet war. Seit Beginn des 18. Jahrhunderts zeigten die Siegel zusätzlich oder als alleiniges Bild einen Schwimmvogelfuß, der als Ortszeichen zu deuten ist. 1901 wurde gemäß dem ältesten Siegel das Gemeindewappen geschaffen. Da das Auge ein heraldisch unbefriedigendes Bild und sein Sinn nicht ohne weiteres verständlich ist, bemühte sich die Gemeinde um ein neues Wappen, das vom Generallandesarchiv entworfen wurde. Der Reiher weist auf die Graureiherkolonie auf der Gemarkung hin und hat Bezug zum alten Fleckenzeichen. Der Wellenbalken versinnbildlicht die Lage der Gemeinde am Rhein. Wappen und Flagge wurden am 16. März 1978 vom Landratsamt Rastatt verliehen. |
