Deutsch: Das Wappen der Benediktinerabtei Niederalteich, in Gold ein grüner Dreiberg, bildet die Basis des Gemeindewappens. Die Abtei prägte die Geschichte der Gemeinde seit den Anfängen, denn Außernzell liegt im Niederalteicher Rodungsgebiet. Der Ortsname geht zurück auf eine cella, eine klösterliche Niederlassung. In der päpstlichen Besitzbestätigung wird 1148 eine Kirche in cella genannt. Niederalteich war bis zur Säkularisation 1803 wichtigster Grundherr im Gemeindegebiet, die Pfarrei Außernzell war nach Niederalteich inkorporiert. Die heraldische Lilie als Mariensymbol und die Kette, Attribut des heiligen Leonhard, verweisen auf die Pfarrkirche Mariä Himmelfahrt in Außernzell und die nahe gelegene Kirche St. Leonhard. |
