Object history
English: The arms are based on the oldest city seal from 1264, immediately made after the foundation of the city by Duke Ludwig of Bayern and German King Konradin. This seal was mentioned in 1297 and known by a print from 1304. The seal already displayed the current pattern. The fleur-de-lis are symbolising the local court of justice. The cross is symbolising the public peace of the market. The pattern changed in details. The cross was erroneously painted as a cross of St. Anthony around 1600. The 6-fold mount, in fact two triplemounts in pale, sometimes was replaced by an 8-fold mount. The tinctures however remained the same. The arms are punning, alluding to a mountain of peace (German: Friedensberg).
