Deutsch: Im Jahre 1303 erwarb der Bischof von Straßburg den Ort, für den er 1326 das Stadtrecht erwirkte. Vom ersten Stadtsiegel an (ältester Abdruck von 1338) enthielten alle Typare das „redende" Bild einer Kirche, auch nachdem Bischof Johann IV. Graf von Manderscheid-Blankenheim 1570 der Stadt erlaubt hatte, sein Wappen zu führen. Erst 1896 kam diese landesherrliche Gnade zur Wirkung, als man das heutige Wappen gestaltete. Es verbindet das alte Siegelbild mit dem Wappen des Hochstifts Straßburg (Schildhaupt) und dem blankenheimischen Wappen. Die maßgebliche Zeichnung und Tingierung wurde 1968 festgelegt. Die Flagge ist seit 1926 in Gebrauch. |
