Deutsch: Die Gemeinde hat das Wappen der Herren von Schwangau übernommen. Es ist ein redendes, den (Orts)Namen erklärendes Wappen. Die Herren von Schwangau waren ursprünglich welfische, seit 1191 dann staufische Ministerialen. Sie gelangten im 13. Jahrhundert zur Reichsfreiheit und sind 1536 ausgestorben. Ihre Herrschaft bestand aus Reichslehen und Allodialgut. Ihr Wappen, der weiße Schwan im roten Feld, ist durch zahlreiche Siegel seit 1200 und durch farbige Abbildungen wie in der Züricher Wappenrolle um 1335 oder im Donaueschinger Wappenbuch von 1440 sowie auf Grabsteinen überliefert. Die Bezeichnung Schwanstein für die Burg der Herren von Schwangau, der Ritter mit dem Schwan, ist ein sogenannter heraldischer Burgname, da er sich vom Wappenbild ableitet. Herzog Albrecht V. von Bayern erwarb 1567 die Herrschaft Schwangau. |
