Deutsch: Die wehrhafte Burg mit offenem Tor ist ein häufig vorkommendes heraldisches Symbol für den Stadtstatus eines Gemeinwesens. Die Bischofsfigur erinnert an die frühere, bis zu Beginn des 19. Jahrhunderts andauernde Landesherrschaft der Erzbischöfe von Salzburg. Tittmoning erlangte schon um die Mitte des 13. Jahrhunderts Stadtrechte (1242 oppidum, 1265 civitas). Das erste Siegel, das in Abdruck von 1299 überliefert ist, zeigt im geteilten Dreiecksschild eine die Mitra emporhaltende Hand. Das Wappen mit der Bischofsfigur (sitzend, seit 1569 wachsend) über dem Stadttor ist seit dem zweiten Stadtsiegel von 1403 nachweisbar. Im 16. und 17. Jahrhundert findet sich auf Abbildungen und Beschauzeichen anstelle des Bischofs eine weltlich gekleidete Figur mit Hut. 1819 ordnete das Innenministerium eine Änderung des Stadtwappens an. Die auf die frühere geistliche Landesherrschaft und nicht auf einen Ortspatron hinweisende Bischofsfigur wurde durch eine goldene Korngarbe unter einer strahlenden Sonne ersetzt. Zugleich wurde die Feldfarbe Rot (für Salzburg) in Blau (für Bayern) geändert. 1836 kehrte man unter Beibehaltung der Feldfarbe Blau zum historischen Wappen zurück. |
